. . . where you may find a treasure chest full of
Basil Rathbone memorabilia
|
Many people who've visited this Basil Rathbone website have e-mailed me asking if I
know where they can buy Rathbone's movies on video or DVD, records Rathbone made, Basil
Rathbone's autograph, etc. I've also received e-mails from Rathbone fans who have
something to sell. So, I decided it might be a good idea to have a page where YOU, the
Rathbone fan, can advertise what you would like to buy or sell.
Here's how it works:
Simply
e-mail me with a description of the
item you wish to acquire or sell. You may advertise for anything that is Basil Rathbone-related. Please make sure that "Collector's Corner" is in the subject line
of your e-mail.
I will post your description right here on this page, together with your e-mail
address. (Please let me know if you do not want your name to be used.)
Interested buyers or sellers will e-mail you, and negotiate directly with you. I
will not be involved.
E-mail me when you have concluded a deal, so I
can remove the "ad" from this page.

- Does anyone have a recording -
tape/record/CD/minidisk/mp3/computer (anything!) version of Basil Rathbone reciting Oscar Wilde's 3 short stories, "The selfish
giant", "The happy prince" and "The nightingale and
the rose"? I had it once - my dad bought it and it really touched
me so I since bought Wilde literature, but it was Rathbone's voice that
made it so powerful. I can get other speakers doing it, but I want
Rathbone only. The record I had was green with an animated giant on the
front (unlike the pic in this site's discography which is also in
contrast called "The happy prince"). My album was called
"The selfish giant". Don't care what yours is called, I'd just
love to hear him tell those stories again and have a copy in some
format. I'll download, borrow, buy or whatever. Thanks. Contact Steve at
brachiosteve@hotmail.com

32. I have for sale mounted autographs (album pages) of Basil Rathbone
and Nigel Bruce. The autographs are
mounted with two 10x8 photographs of Rathbone and Bruce (one from "The Hound
of the Baskervilles" and the other is a Universal promotional photograph).
Both signatures are done in fountain pen (Rathbone's is dark blue, whilst
Bruce's is brown and has 1943 underneath). The mount is currently framed
(black, steel frame, with UV filtered glass and the inside mount is black)
however, I will separate the frame/mount if required for shipping. Both
signatures are in excellent condition. Rathbone's is dedicated, which has
been matted out, just to leave the signature (about 3 inches long in total)
and Bruce's is about 2 1/2 inches long. I am looking for
about £400.00 for the item framed and about £350.00 unframed. If interested,
please contact cy.winward@virgin.net.
33. I've transferred the
kinescope of the Hallmark Hall of Fame production of Hans Brinker or the
Silver Skates to DVD. It stars Tab Hunter and features the young Dick
Button, Peggy King, opera singer Jarmila Novotna and the great Basil
Rathbone. It's a truly delightful musical with music by Hugh Martin, the
composer of Meet Me in St. Louis.
This is a DVD-R with a
full menu and chapter settings. The program has not been digitally
remastered but is in quite good shape considering its age (1958). It comes
in a DVD case with artwork and annotation.

For sale is a hand signed
copy of Basil Rathbone's IN AND OUT OF CHARACTER an autobiography. The
book has been signed on the inside cover in a fountain pen BEST
WISHES BASIL RATHBONE. The book itself is in very good condition,
however the book is stamped in red "damaged" at the top of the inside cover page. I think the reason for this is a slight mark on the wrap around sleeve
and the store who sold it all them years ago had to indicate this I
presume. For more info and pictures email me at
matthewjamesmcneillie@hotmail.com . I'm looking for offers of around
$800.
40. I am selling a signed photo of Basil Rathbone rehearsing a fight
scene with his fencing master Fred Cavens. This photo is particularly nice
because of the inscription that accompanies the signature. A true bit of
Hollywood history. The inscription is as follows:
"Dear Agatha,
Fred Cavens, my fencing master
for nearly 10 years. Here we rehearse the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio
in M.G.M's "Romeo & Juliet." Fred Cavens doubled for Barrymore
in the duel between Barrymore and myself (Mercutio v Tybalt) that's the
reason I am still alive!! Thanking you for such a happy
stay at Tulane" |
 |
followed by Basil Rathbone's signature. The photo is double mounted in a black
frame with conservation glass to protect the photo. The photo was authenticated as genuine
in 2002 by the Autographica Company and valued for insurance purposes at
£650. The Authentication Certificate will be supplied with the photo. If
interested, please contact Karen at

Try EBAY, an internet auction. I've seen quite a
bit of unusual and rare Rathbone memorabilia offered for sale there. At the main page,
click on "Search" and type "Basil Rathbone" under "Title
Search." (Be sure to check the box that says "Search Title and
Description." That way, if Rathbone's name appears in the description of an item, but
not in the title, that item will be included in the search results.) All the guidelines
for bidding and selling are explained at EBAY.
