King David, Arthur Honegger's oratorio and symphonic psalm, narrated by Basil Rathbone.  King David was performed on multiple occasions and recorded at least twice with Rathbone as narrator:

  • University of Nebraska, Lincoln, May 1954, with Margaret Goldsmith (soprano), Marilee Logan-Amundson (contralto), Frank Barger (tenor), Ronny Crocker (David as a boy) and Basil Rathbone (narrator)
  • University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, June 1955, with Horace Jones (conductor); Frank Barger (baritone); Martha Miller (contralto); Josephine Antoine (soprano); and Basil Rathbone (narrator)
  • Ohio Wesleyan University, May 9, 1958. Directed by Prof. Rexford Keller, with Louise Natale (soprano), Beatrice Krebs (contralto), Robert Price (tenor), and Basil Rathbone (narrator)

King David

The Murder of Lidice by Edna St. Vincent Millay -- narrated by Basil Rathbone, with Blanche Yurka and Czech and Slovak chorus (3 records, 78 rpm, Columbia Masterworks M-536). This is a poem written as a commemorative of the town of Lidice that was picked to be annihilated by the Nazis during World War II, as revenge for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, known as the Hangman.
